Well, if there was one freely-available standardized test, smart candidates
would obtain it in advance, research all questions, and always get a perfect
score.

I think Trent Hein and/or Evi Nemeth have a standard "test" that they give
on phone interviews.  They publish this list in their LISA talks on
"Topics in System Administration".  Maybe somebody put these online somewhere?

Anyway, I suggest you develop your own set of questions, hopefully ones that
are particularly relevant to your own environment.

Also, check with your Human Resources department, as there may be some
legal no-no's about giving a "test" in an interview.  I seem to remember
someone telling me that there are certain limitations and criteria that
you must meet to avoid liability.  Of course, I can't remember the
specifics, and your mileage may vary.

Ob-favorite-question:  Everybody's favorite question from Trent/Evi's
test is: "How familiar are you with the UNIX bobs drivers?"
