The other good option, software-wise is "conserver", either the original
OSU version, or the more featureful Purdue rewrite at
ftp://ftp.physics.purdue.edu/pub/pundits/README.html
We've started using it quite heavily under Red Hat linux here at
Fermilab. It has useful features like console logging, and in the
latest release, an interface to serial-port smart power strips, so
you can acutally power cycle machines remotely...
