The MIT people have been rocking on wearables for a while. 
Through the links on the page cdl cites you can get to:
http://wearables.www.media.mit.edu/projects/wearables/mit-ideo/index.html.
This is an excellent case study of some high end beta wearables. 
Fascinating reading of two everday people's experience.
