We've had really bad experiences with cisco console servers
causing Sun servers to have to be re-installed, including our
firewall servers. Under no circumstances whatsoever will we ever
make that mistake again.
We have people who have previous experience with Cyclades
equipment, and the advantage there is that you could ssh into the
server, and then directly connect to the serial port of the console,
and your communications are never sent in the clear, even on a local
unrouted network (as would be the case with all hardware terminal
servers I know of).
