Re: [SAGE] Where to start - French?

Considering it has been some time since this request. How did your class
go ? Here are some added ideas that might still help.

I believe that Hans suggestion below is a great idea for also supplying the
documentation that they will need, your students, but you will need one of
the students to help you prep for the class with this type of handouts since
you indicated that you do not understand French.

You said to Anthony Howe:

After having to sell and support Intel based Unix for more than 15 years to
small and large businesses, I would suggest training on the 10 to 15 common
user commands for a shell prompt that would allow your users to feel
comfortable in this new environment. You could relate the Unix based
commands to the DOS counterpart commands that are in Windows. This way you
are working from a familiar system and relating it to the unknown. Several
years ago there was a book out that discussed Unix from the point of related
commands. Its' point was that out of the 60 commands that MSDOS has you
only used 10 to 15 commands daily. This also hold somewhat true for even
Unix. has 250 + commands, but a USER would only still use 5 to 10
commands. Once they become familiar. Then you could expand upon this
base.

You might want to check into a French (fr.) related Unix Admin - News Group
and put this same type of request within this group's listserver. The same
person that would help you with the documentation could help translate your
English written request into French and included within the same posting for
an easier understanding.

My wife's cousin, who is a computer professional in Paris, told me the
last time I visited him, that most persons dealing with computers need to
understand English to be able to keep up with the computer industry's
technical information. I am sure that your efforts in using French would
be appreciated with the persons you have to teach and work with. You may
find it very interesting as I had experienced.

Just a few thoughts.
