Re: [SAGE] Fan Controls for Server Closets
I am replying to the group on this. Thanks for all of the replies. I will look into Acoustilock and at www.quietpc.com
For some ideas and possible solutions. I got some suggestions to about changing the servers. We are changing these to rack mount units which caused me to go down the enclosure route. The servers handle the daily administration of the High Schools. The big work horse program they run is a scheduling program that rosters the students for the upcoming year. Although the system has a small footprint low capacity drives are not easily found (SCSI ones) and when you find them they aren't warranted. I have gone that route previously and had to spend some long nights ad lost vacations handling crashed systems. The other issue is we run on SCO OpenServer. We are migrating to LINUX but that isn't an overnight move.
The enclosures we purchased were from Budd. I am not pleased with them and may not purchase these again. It was like putting your kids bike together on Christmas eve without the instructions. They told us the fan was quieter than the previous model. I guess it depends what someone's threshold of noise is. The enclosures we have are vented on both sides, top, bottom and back. A slower fan would be the best bet. The monitor throws off the most heat and that is off almost all of the time.
Thanks again for the quick responses and tips.
