I too think that IO would be slower on a VMware system than under something
like, say, a FreeBSD jail. (In fact, that has been my real-world experience
with VMware workstation.) But I read somewhere that VMware has been working
hard to get around some of the limitations in how they are virtualizing the
machine. I wonder..
