What I've found is that people with newly minted degrees tend towards "but 
this is how the book/professor said to do it, and any other way must be 
wrong because when I did it that way I failed the assignment."  It's more 
a reflection on the current educational regime of rote memorization rather 
than teaching people how to analyze problems and draw conclusions.  To be 
a successful sysadmin, you have to be able to do both, and I'm not going 
to hire you if I have to spend a year getting you to unlearn all the 
nonsense the education system just spent four years drilling in to your 
head.
